I have a 97 2 stroke 9.9EL mariner outboard hooked up on my boat as a kicker motor I use for trolling. I've had it for about 4 years and it has worked flawlessly. There is a seperate throttle control hooked up for use on the motor. I used it last weekend with no issues. This weekend I started it up just to run it for a little while and it ran fine. Upon trying to shut it off, I couldn't. I turned the key off, kept running, flipped the little run switch, kept running. I had to turn the idle down until it stalled. Now it won't start by using the key. I can start the motor by jumping across the two large terminals on the starter solenoid when the key is on, but it still won't shut off. Mud wasps had made a nest that covered the two small top wires on this solenoid which I cleaned off. I wonder if this could be related to my problems? I took the control apart everything looks brand new, all wires are good, the fuse by the solenoid is ok. Please help me if you can I'm going next weekend to try and fix it. Thanks.
