9.9 Merc carb issues

I have a 97 mercury 9.9hp outboard. It has never had a carb rebuild. It will idle. When you advance the throttle the motor starts to die. If you pull the primer several times it will take back off.

I think that it is starving for fuel. Can I just tear down the carb and clean it? Or should I get a rebuild kit? I have not done one of these before. Is there a write up online or a manual I can download.

I sounds like the high speed jet is plugged and if you are lucky you should be able to clean it without a carb kit but you should have at least a gasket set incase there are damaged gaskets
