9.9 not running

My 9.9 Evinrude 4 stroke, 1996 electric started up well tonite using my ear muffs and hose, but died shortly after. I had a hard time keeping it going and finally could not get it started.<br />I decided to check the oil. When I did, oil came gushing out of the dipstick hole. <br />Can you tell me what happened and what needs to be done? <br />By the way I had a new diaphram put in last summer.<br />Thanks for the help.<br />Mike

Sounds like it could be your fuel pump ruptured which will allow water to enter the oil. Had the same thing happen on my 1997 9.9 4 stroke last year.

Yeah...What Bob said. Drain the oil and see if you can smell gas.

Hi: Silver<br />I have a 1997 Evinrude 9.9 hp 4 stroke and have had all kinds of problems.I'm currently putting in my 4th power pack,I also have replaced my water pump this year,last year replaced the fuel pump. My cable for my remote control box broke last year. <br />The first day I ran the new motor it started stalling after 2 miles and I barely made it back to the marina. Took it back to the dealer and he replaced the first power pack. My neddle on the tack fell off after a couple of days. The dealer put in a rebuilt fuel pump that keep on cutting out. I finally put in a new fuel pump for less money than he charged for a re-built. Just wondering how you have made out with your 4 stroke ??
