9.9 Throttle shaft slop question...

I've been wanting to fix the throttle slop on my '78 9.9 for years, and now I've started... I replaced the steering control shaft and the steering handle gear and bushing, that got a lot of it, but I'm still not happy... So now it's to the inner control shaft gear and the vertical control shaft gear... How do I get them out ???? I've got the vertical control shaft out of the way...Seems like one or the other of the gears should come out and allow he other to be removed, but I can't see it happening with the bushing length on the inner gear and the control shaft lever pin (?) under the vertical gear... The rest of the slop seems to be between the vertical gear and the pin underneath...Any help sure would be appreciated...

THANKS ! I just got through figuring that out, they call it a "pin" for a reason... I had tried that before I asked, it would'nt come out because of 30+ yrs. of dried hard grease !

Re: 9.9 Throttle shaft slop question...

After reassembling all this, it got a bit more slop out, but I'm still not happy... I figured out a couple of things...

First, the foot on the vertical shaft is worn in a couple of places... It seems to be made of pot metal, so I don't think I can put a little wire weld on it and grind to a better fit, but might try if anybody thinks that'd work...Otherwise, I was thinking of using some sort of epoxy to fill the gaps, but I don't want it to stick to both the plastic and the metal ...Any ideas ?

Next, the pin for the vertical gear is worn some on the bottom... I was thinking of just dropping a small piece of aluminum foil in the hole to tighten it up ...Any ideas on this ?

You guys on here have always been a world of help since I found yall a couple of years ago, THANKS !!!!
