I'm a newbie member, but I've gotten some great tips from the forum already.

I have a problem that I brought on myself... I overhauled the carb on my 1987 9.9 merc (it wasn't running too well last season - stalled and hard to start)and apparently got something wrong. (next time I'll follow my instincts and take it in for the work).

The engine starts and runs great in neutral at higher speeds (with the manual throttle open), but as soon as I try to bring it to normal idle speed, it dies out.

I assume I got something wrong when I reassembled the carb (the shop manual wasn't all that helpful). I know that I got the lower hose connected ok, the fuel supply and ignition are good. It seems like maybe a fuel mixture problem in the low speed circuit.

I'm wondering if anyone else has seem a problem like this or could direct me on where to look for my mistake.

Thanks for your help,
jb
