Hey everyone. This year I want to get my outboard running good. Every weekend I take it out to the lake and spend a hour trying to get it to run (exaguration) but then after i get it running it will start on the first pull for the rest of the trip and runs great. Does anyone have an idea as to the cause? Where should I begin? Thank you everyone!

Sounds like a choke problem. Next trip try spraying some mixed gas in the throat of the carb or shut off the air to the carb [put your hand on the front face] and choke it. If it starts easy fix the choke, it sucking air instead of gas.

Starting procedure, pump primer bulb until hard, close choke, set throttle at closed or whatever is recommended in your book, pull starter. If you can get this procedure down just right, she'll fire right up for you, but if any one item is not just right, it'll wear you out. Make sure your spark plug is clean and dry. Good Luck!

Thanks for your responses guys!

I bought this outboard on my first boat last year. Unfortunatly I dont even have a manual for it, or even know its year. That starting procedure should be a good help. I will check the choke. Thanks again!

You can also try holding the throttle open a little as you squeeze the primer bulb. This seems to be the trick with my 30hp yammy.
