Re: 9.9hp ted williams runs for 10 min than stalls
For the second questioner: If you don't have the electronic ignition model, the one with the two coils mounted externally on the head, try
www.certifiedpartscorp.com and call the number you find there. Have the model number of your outboard on hand, along with the serial number. They may have the older magneto-type coils under the flywheel, as may a small engine shop. The engines are by Tecumseh.
If it is the electronic ignition, the head mounted coils are available here and there, but for about $100+ apiece. Most often, though, it is the parts under the flywheel that fail. They're not available anywhere, since it was a common failure point on those engines and all the spares are gone. No more are being made, and will never be made for these 35+ year old engines.
Running perfectly, the Eska-based 9.9 and 15hp outboards are worth less than the cost of replacing the ignition systems, I'm afraid. Worse, there are two distinct styles of the stuff under the flywheel, and if you find the wrong one, you need the matching flywheel.
Very annoying. As I said, I've given up on mine.
