Had a friend ask me for help finding a lower unit for his '92 150.

Found out the 90-120-150 lowers (1990-1994) with the two piece driveshaft will fit.

Question, is the difference in the driveshaft length (20" or 25") determined with the upper driveshaft?

Or to put it another way, will a lower from a 20" motor, fit on a 25" motor?

I've never had one of these, and my manual doesn't cover it in any detail.

Thanks guys.

Yes and yes. In my some what limited experience, as long as you have the correct shaft and the coupler, the lower unit is interchangeable. Not sure if the ratio will be identical.

The lower should work fine, he will need the drive shaft from his 150 though and the coupler
Should be the same as well.
Just a precaution though, make sure the drive shaft splines on the 150 are the same as the lower splines and coupler.

Gear ratios are different on all three. The difference in a short/long shaft is the drive shaft of course
and the lower housing on the mid section. It's 5" longer.
