boat is as described.... 90 Bayliner.... 4.3 (262), Alpha 1.

Old motor went out....

long story short... it has a very low mileage chevy 4.3 balance shaft motor (don't ask how I got it all to work).... anyways... that's not the discussion here, just a bit of background.

Wiring diagrams I have show 2 possible options...

I have a random "eyelet" wire... white (maybe creme) with a blue stripe... that's length puts it sort of around the dizzy, oil pressure switch, and the ignition "amplifier" box.

1 diagram says this could be for the oil pressure switch

another says the oil pressure switch is light blue and that the white/blue line wire is for the coolant temp sensor.

Now... the coolant temp sensor already has a white/blue wire on it (in fact, I think 2 are connected to it)... and the oil pressure switch that I actually labelled is light blue.

Everything else seems to be right where it should be.... I left the dizzy and coil (along with just about everything I could) attached to the harness when I took it off the motor rather than removing the harness and components.

Reason I ask is because it won't start... has great oil pressure, cranks great... the coil has power (because I tied the universal electric fuel pump into an oil pressure switch and into the pos wire on the coil and the pump is coming on), and all the grounds are in tact....

bump....

anyone come across anything like this or know why I would have wiring for what appears to be both diagrams?

I do have the 90a orange cable along with a 50a circuit breaker that the starter is tied into.... if by chance someone has a better diagram than what the Clymer's book has....

90 views... nobody?

tomorrow I'll have a friend crank it while I check for fuel and spark.... if I'm not getting fuel then the pump is just making a WHOLE lot of noise...

is a photo needed?

Not that I've seen any help yet, LOL.

The rogue wire has not yet been figured out.

The starting issue was something I overlooked and realized later. The electric fuel pump was jumpered off the coil's power... and the pulse's of the pump were interfering with the coil's ability to start.

now it will start, but runs SUPER rich given any throttle. I think the cheapo pump is overkill and will need a regulator.
