90 Ficht FPLEEC - up in smoke

Don't want to beat the OMC/Ficht debacle to death, but here's my dilemma...after dealing with an unending host of minor problems (<400hrs.), something seriously bad happened Sat. - leaving me dead-in-the-water and thankful for towing insurance. I'm 100% certain that I'll be looking at a powerhead replacement. I'm wondering if I'm completely insane to even be considering it, or should I cut my losses? Anyone had any good experiences with Bombardier replacement powerheads?

You have a 5 year old motor, a 1999. It was OK in its day but a year later the FICHTS were completely re-engineered for better running and reliability. You would be better off lookin for a new or later model engine if yours has a major problem.

What year is your motor? I am the ownwer of a 2000 150 Ficht that has been pretty good. I lost an oil pump and one injector both of which were covered under warranty. From what I understand the smaller Fichts were never a problem. I would go for the new powerhead.

Ted

Thanks for the replys. It is a '99 (which was purchased new in July of 2000 - but that's another story) so I'm just another bankruptcy victim who's been reaching in their own pocket for every necessary repair so far. I know guides that put 6 to 800 hrs on motors in a year and keep 'em for three, so I don't think I'm way out of line to have expected a bit longer service life. $20./hr is a pretty hefty replacement reserve! That said, would a factory powerhead just be fresh lemonaid? Reading some posts on the new eTecs isn't giving me too much faith in the new incarnations of Ev/Jon.
