Turn the idle adjustment screw in until it stays running, then adjust mixture, then recheck timing.

I turned in the idle screw, adjusted the mixtures in 1 click each, now they are about 1 1/8 out. I rechecked the timing, and it is 29btdc at wot. Before I swear it was at 30. So should I advance it to 30, or leave it where it is.

Also when checking timing I noticed that my middle cylinder, on the spark lights that I use for grounding, the middle cyl was definately not as bright as the others. But all the spark plugs look exaclty the same.

The carbs probably need a good cleaning out anyway. If that doesn't take care of the problem, the only thing left that I can think of is the very small chance that the flywheel has sheered the key and shifted positions. And that it's showing to be in time when the motor timing is actually retarded.
