I have a 1987 3 cylinder 90 H.P. Mercury Outboard with a jet drive attached that has warm start prob lem when out in the lake. This in not the case when staring with a hose attachment on the trailer. The motor will start and run every time with the hose attachment on the trailer, not the case out in the lake. The battery has been load tested good, stator checks out and the carbs has been rebuilt but the hard starting problem previals. Any suggestions?

You have'nt given us much to go on ,but we'll conclude that you are cranking over too slow while on the water to start. How are the bearings in that jet unit, and are you shimed properly?Remember that when this engine is running,or cranking ,the screw action of the impeller is pulling that impeller down into the liner. If the bearings are bad you will be stuffing that impeller right into the liner.Just a thought.
