My friend has a 1983 Mariner that he just put a new stator and 2 new power packs on. We put on the water and it ran great for a good while. After a while it wouldn't accelerate past 2000 rpms before cutting off. We know that the battery is not charging so he is going to install a new rectifier today. What I am wondering is that if the battery is dead and NOT charging would it affect how the motor runs? We were only able to start it by jumping it from his trolling motor battery. The motor idles fine and revs up good when not in gear without any hesitation and the battery is new. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
