I have an 87 90hp and the automatic oiling system has been removed by a previous owner. I just rebuilt the fuel pump and the book says there is supposed to be a check valve on the front of the fuel pump. The problem is one opening had been closed off with a cap and the other has a 90 degree brass fitting that goes to the block from the fuel pump and it has no check valve in it. Since the oil system has been removed is it necessary to replace the brass fitting with a check valve and is it necessary for proper operation of the fuel pump. Thanks.

I'm going to try to help you with a gut answer. The remote oiler had to understand the demands put upon it by the engine. Engine vacuum is a good common denominator. Then there was a crankshaft driven pump and all that "stuff".

If you remove the remote oiler and you manually premix oil with your fuel in your tank, all the interconnects to the oiler are history!!!!!. All that you have to do, in my estimation, is to seal them (all) off so that they don't either suck or blow vacuum, pressure, fuel, or oil.

Thanks Texasmark. I will give it a shot and see how it runs without it.
