ok guys. so tonight was the first i have run this motor. its an early 90's ... there are no #'s on motor so i called the factory help line with the stampings i could find and if i remember correctly they told me its a 92. so assuming its a 1992 johnson 90 hp hers the issue. as i said, first time in the water with this motor. new impellar, carbs cleaned and gone through, its runs AWESOME and pumps water great. i only ran it for a few minutes when the alarm started to sound so i put it in neutral and walked back to check the temp of the water coming out of the tell tale ... nice and cool. so i put it back in forward and opened it up and the more throttle i gave it the faster the alarm beeped. after shutting it down and putting the boat on the trailer i pulled the cover right away and you could lay your hand on all 4 cylinders and head with no worries of get burned at all .... easily could just hold your hands on the motor ... i mix gas at 32/1 16 ounces in 6 gallons ... so what gives with this alarm guys ??? thanks guys, scott

Is the VRO pump still operating on the motor. 16 oz of oil in 6 gallons of gas is 50-1 which is correct. A solid alarm is the temp a beep every second is the no oil flow on the vro. And a beep every 20-30 seconds is low oil in the tank

flyingscott .... yes .. its a beep about every second but once i give it throttle the beep gets faster. i have no clue about the VRO pump. should there also be a tank to pour oil into ? what can i do about the VRO pump and the annoying alarm ??

Look for a tank will be easy to find. Under where the fuel line plugs into the motor will be a hose if that is not blocked off, follow the line to the tank. If it is blocked off find the VRO pump on the motor I believe it is mounted on the lower part of the airbox. Find the wiring harness that comes off the pump and follow it until you get to the plug and disconnect it.

Make sure there's oil in the vro oil tank and when it's running, pump the oil primer bulb a couple of times and see what happens.

AWESOME ,,,,,,, the hose under where the fuel line connects is cut and plugged off. there is no oil tank in the boat as it was completely gutted to a bare aluminum hull and rebuilt and this motor was not on it when i bought the boat. i do recall a plug that was disconnected when i was going over the motor ... dont quote me but i think a brown and maybe a tan or black wire plug. i plugged it back in figuring it needed to be.

You are looking for a 4 wire plug one will be purple. Find the 4 wires coming off the pump. But if they disconnected a tan wire that is an overheat sensor on the head or another sensor. Put up a pic of the wire when you get a chance.

flyingscott ..... i found the plug you were talking about ... i UNplugged it ( pic1 and pic 2 ) i have 2 overheat sensors ? looking at the motor from the back ...theres a sensor with a brown wire ( pic 3) on the upper left cylinder .. cyl #1 ?? and another with the same wire on the lower right cyl .. Cyl #4?? ( pic 4 ) should just unplugging the 4 wire plug from the VRO get rid of the alarm ? like i said the motor ran cool. thanks again

The first 2 are for the vro pump. 3 and 4 are temp. There is no need to mix your gas if your vro is working. I unhooked my vro and just mixed my gas on my old boat. So if your ok with mixing your gas just leave the vro unhooked and blocked off.

Just leave the vro wiring unhooked that should stop the alarm going off. As for those other pics. Feel free to rush anytime lol
