I have a late 80's Mariner 90 3 cyl two stroke. The serial starts with 0B132...and that is all I can read. At the top of the page there is a sticky that gives links to help find the year model, but I don't see mine listed.

Anyway, I am having a hard time starting and idling. I have messed with mixture screws a little and they are sensitive! It appears that someone has monkeyd with the ignition timing, as all of teh stop screws are loose.

I am somewhat familiar with some of the Yamaha outboards, as I work for a dealer. But like the Maytag repair man, we don't see them in the shop very often.

So, is there a source where I can download a service manual? I don't mind if I have to pay for the manual, but I can't get them from where I work and the closest dealer is an hour away, and he is not the easiest person in the world to deal with. I need to verify the ignition timing.

Am I correct in that I can check the idle advance by pulling the plugs, grounding them, and using a timing light to check the advance? Or does Mercury (Mariner, Brunswick whatever) specify another way to do it? At cranking speed with the plugs out (about 700 RPM) I am at about 5 deg BTDC. If I push the stop to full advance, it goes to around 26. Also, what is the max RPM range? At full speed I am running 5200. I assume this is close?
