I have a 1992/3 Mercury 90HP - (s/n 0D049608 m/n 1090412LD) - it sat up for about 2 years before I got it. Local shop has done the following:
-removed and cleaned carbs
-adjusted and sync'd carbs
-replaced fuel pump diaphragm
I have:
-drained all old gas
-refilled the tank with fresh gas and topped off the oil resevior
-replaced full line from tank including primer bulp and the fittting that snaps to the motor
Here's the problem:
The motor seems to run okay (maybe a little rough) but runs okay at idle or at trolling type rpms - when I give it throttle - gets up on plane eventually and then after about 30 seconds - just dies completely. I'll get it started again and it will idle and troll fine...but when I try to get her up on plane....about 20/30 seconds...then dies again. The motor also seems like i should have more power, but just not sure which direction to go at this point. The motor is on a pretty small 15 1/2 foot fiberglass bass boat. It also seems to run best after I've let it sit for a day or so....runs and idles okay, then when I try to get her going, she'll get up and then 30 seconds later, die. The main cranking battery needs to be replaced, but since carb and not efi, it seems this shouldn't be the cause of the problem - but please advise if so.
Can you guys give me a track to go down to find the problem? One last thing - I noticed it seems that there was some fuel / oil making it's way into the water at times - is this normal?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
