My outboard has cut off on me a couple of times while running at full throttle. It will crank back immediately after cutting off. Gas line, Tank vent, fuel filter and spark plugs are okay. Any ideas out there on what this could be? Is there such a thing as a half bad fuel pump?

What does the primer bulb look like when this happens?

Does th engine stop DEAD-BANG or just slow down and die?

The primer bulb is full and tight. The engine stops DEAD-BANG.

I had the same problem on my 1983 200hp. It would cut back, and make a sound like metal clacking, which was prob the gears all slowing down quickly, then I would re-start and it was fine. I just replaced my other fuel pump and so far so good. dont know if that was it so I would be interested to see what yours was....
