Friend of mine let someone use his boat at a family outing and the guy revved the eng up and slammed it into rev. Now it won?t fully engage into rev, out of the water it will spin in rev but in the water it will not move the boat in rev. Checked the linkage in the control box, and disconnected the cable from motor and tried to put it in manually, it went in once but not again. I pulled the lower unit off and turned the shift shaft on the unit it seems to rotate to far to me. How far should the shaft rotate? I would think 1/4 turn from fwd through neut to rev, no? Any Ideas on what could be wrong with it? Trying to gather some info before I pull the unit apart.
