I have a 95 90hp evinrude.Motor starts easy, runs great. Run down the lake and fish for a while it starts fine, runs good. Run down the lake fish for ten minutes or so, motor is hard to start, acts like it is flooded, have to push throttle forward to get it started then it dosen't want to idle. After it gets going it runs fine and will idle. Any ideas?

could have a float needle not closing all the way. the pressure build up due to heat, could be flooding the motor.

Re: 90hp evinrude starting problems

With the new warm weather and the 10% alcohol gasolines, you may be experiencing heat soak. Explained quickly, it is when your motor runs on fap vapours rather than liquid petrol. Your 90hp is one of the likely candidates for this due plastic manifolds and carbs. Be sure that you are using the proper Champion plug gapped to .030, link n sync as per your manual, and perhaps richen your idle screw a touch. Another helpful tip is to prime the fuel system with the primer bulb, and let it idle for a bit before starting off. Be sure to follow Tash's advice first.

Good luck.

Re: 90hp evinrude starting problems

I took carbs off, cleaned them out and put new carb kits in, made a big difference in the way it runs. Starts easy now. I also put new plugs in and gapped them to .030", the ones I took out were not the right ones.Motor runs really good now. Thanks for your help.
