I pulled this 90 out of storage and have been workig on it for a few months now. I came to crank it up for the first time last week and it immediately cranked and reved constantly wide open until I killed it. Then cranked it again with same result wide open, not even close to idle. Pulled the carbs which have been thoroughly cleaned, re-adjusted the floats, fresh gas, and changed the needle and seats in all three. Yesterday cranked it to see if I had solved the problem, but disappointed with the same result of immediate surge to wide open rpm range. Throttle cable was disconnected but problem wasn't solved. Any ideas?

When you open and close the throttle is the butterfly's open and closeing all the way?
Best I can remember clams said in a old post something about puting a spring on the throttle arm to get it to close all the way I think.. Not sure though.. I thought I might mention that. Maybe Clams or someone may step in with more solid information. I know when you start my inline with the throttle cable off it will rev real high. Have you started it with the cable on?

Yes, I started it the first time with the throttle cable connected, and made sure the throttle arm was completely in the idle position.
I sure can use any advice, the tower is almost ready to roll, I just have to get all the bugs out.

Thanks Clams. I found the post. Is is possible to rent a timing light and dial caliper from Autozone or Napa. I seemed to have misplaced mine.

You can get a timing light for about $25 at Sears. You can find TDC to set the pointer without a caliper. The timing sticker outta be already on the flywheel.

-W

Advance Auto has a loan a tool program, All you have to do is leave a deposit on it and when you bring it back you get all your money back. You can't beat that deal! Tim

Perfect, someone gave me a $50 gift certificate to Sears. Yes, the decal is still on the flywheel. Will "Time and Synch" Friday and post my results. Thanks for the help!
