I've cleaned the carbs on the thing. It has good compression and good spark on all cylinders. Reinstalled carbs and the engine didn't run right and idle at all. I sprayed some fuel/oil mix in the bottom carb which feeds both bottom cylinders and it neither sped up or bogged down from too much fuel. I think the float may have been stuck open flooding the bottom two. I am about to reinstall and test this afternoon. Does anyone else have any ideas as to the problem?
Thanks

Some of the settings/adjustments may have been disturbed during your carb overhaul. You may need to perform a sync and link procedure. It's detailed in the factory service manual. For instance, both carb butterflys must be completely closed when it is at idle.

Sorry,
Its a 110hp I believe. THose carbs seem really simple and I've cleaned that bottom one twice and the throttle plates are closing completely. I can spray fuel lin there, or remove the plug wires on both bottom cylinders and no change. Plenty of spark and I switched the plugs with no change. I have checked the reeds and they seem to be fine. I guess I'll clean that carb one more time! I must have missed something. Seems like there's no way spraying fuel in that carb shouldn't make a difference unless it was flooded and I checked that the second time pretty good and it was sealing properly.... I'm stumped.

If you squeeze the primer bulb can you push fuel through the system or does it get rock hard? Did you reuse the need and seat or install new ones? Even though the look clean they can wear out and no longer seal properly.

Seems odd that if you have good spark on all 4 plug wires, that you get no change results when spraying fuel into the bottom carb. If it's firing, it should tend to flood the cyls with excess fuel, slowing down the engine. Would make me think the bottom two cyls have no spark. Have you checked the bottom two coil wires for spark when the engine is running? An inductive timing light will show the quality of spark on all 4 plugwires when running. Make sure the engine is well warmed up when you check the spark. Weak ignition components run ok when cold, the crap out when the engine warms up. That engine will seem to run just fine on the garden hose when only firing on 2 or 3 cyls.

I took the boat out and it ran great on full throttle but lousy at idle and midrange. I took it home and swapped out the gaskets and float needles and I think the problem did follow those items. I ordered new gaskets and float needles and believe the problem will be solved. Thanks for the help.
