But with the info from the manual i will be able to order the part that the dealer says doesn't exist ( maybe that's why the couldn't fix it in the first place) :D

Bob, Before you go off half cocked you get your facts right.
Part No. 25-86203 Sits on top of the water pump, not at the top of the drive shaft. It has nothing to do with the crankshaft.
Read my bottom line!

Whaley, you are right on the part number I gave it was for the slinger ring. Jim, I didn't ck. enough sorry if I caused you a problem, the slinger ring is listed as reference number 38 and the O/ring is listed in reference number 38a and that part number is 25-99691 or seirra # 18-7959 it has a ID of .4724 and is .1378 wide.--- Bob
Whaley, there still is a oring which you said there wasn't read your service manual, but I guess some times I give lousy advice just like you--Bob

Re: 91 20hp carb question

Bob, I think that 25-99691 was only used on early model 18-20-25s. i.e. The XD motors etc. The newer motors do not not use this O ring (Remember Jims motor is 91)
They leave the groove in the shaft because this shaft can be back fitted to the older motors.
We seem to be getting off the point here. I personally dont think that the problem is in this area, could be wrong however. Jim have a good look at those reed valves, take them out the block, also look at the rubber seal between the reed valves, it must be in good condition and located properly.
Jim I love your bottom line, permission please to hang it on my workshop wall. We are so far behind here that sometimes we catch ourselves going the other way

Re: 91 20hp carb question

Well we can end this without resolution, my boss got tired of having the boat in the yard and had them pick it up. We charged them only for the waterpump we replaced and nothing else. I really hate to let it go, but with boats backing up in the yard, something had to go and we are basically a johnson evenrude shop. I really appreciate everybodys input, and am sure that I will be talking to you on this forum again. Whaley I can't take credit for the signature, but use it with my blessings. Laddies you were a great help and i sincerely enjoyed reading your suggestion, I just wish we could have continued working on this problem until resolution. I am the kind of person who tackles a problem and doesn't let go until I reach a resolution.

Jim,
I hope you will put the boat owner in touch with this board--maybe he can keep working on it himself--if we can ever figure out what the problem is!
