In an earlier post I ask about the squeeze ball on the VRO, thanks to all that responded. However more problems have crept up and I am hoping for the great help I usually recieve here. I took the motor out on the water for the first time tonite, started right up and purred like a kitten. After a warmup period I gave it throttle and it was extremely slow and would not get up to speed. About 19 mph on my 16 ft Starcraft aluminium boat. This is not the holiday model, but the lighter runabout model. My old Merc 40 did 24 mph.
After trying to accelerate a few times the VRO alarm started with a beep every 5 to 10 seconds. I have made up my mind to disconnect it, checked the fuel and oil lines for kinks and both primer balls were firm, so the VRO is going. When I pulled the boat out of the water and the motor was draining, water was comming out from the front of the leg where the split is for the lower unit, I see a small square hole there, is this normal?
The motor has a 12 1/2 x 15 pitch prop on it, as I don't know what comes on them does this sound about right for a fairly light 16' alum runabout?
Any adjustments that I might make or look for to address the lack of performance? Plugs were new. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
