Re: 91 Evinrude 150 problem

Be sure to take lost of pics, from all angles, BEFORE you dis-assemble it! They're very handy, even if you do know what you're doin! Also spend the money for a book on that motor, or check the local library, like I did. Learn how to use a torque wrench, so ya won't break anything. An assortment of magnets & small plastic bins, or a desk drawer organizer are usefull to keep up with small parts & keep them in seperate areas, depending on what they are used for. Go ahead & buy a complete overhaul gasket kit, cause you'll find other things that'll need to be replaced. AND TAKE YOUR TIME! Unless you live in the deep south, you've got all winter!:D Post any questions here & we'll be glad to help!:)

P.S. take care to keep parts from rusting while you have it apart, and good luck!

Dont order or repair anything untill block is pressure tested, these blocks are known to leak around the glue seams when block was cast. Without testing a perfect rebuild go go to crap from a leaker block. Find out what caused the failure and fix it or you will be right back where you are now.

Re: 91 Evinrude 150 problem

I would most definitely be unhappy if I spend the money to rebuild this motor only to find out it has a problem with the block. Man this boating thing is really getting complicated. Buy new, used, rebuild...so many decisions. I guess I will keep my options open since I do not have the money to either buy or rebuild until after the holidays. I have seen a couple of newer (mid 90s) for around $2000-2500. Thank all of you very much for all of the tips and advice. I really don't want to rush into something and regret it like I am regretting this boat purchase right now. I really like the boat though.
