The OP motor is NOT a CDM ignition motor it a ADI ignition. This works very similar but trigger is what tells CDM or SCR to discharge capacitor. It dont care how many cylinders as trigger magnet is set length and pass coils the same amount of time regardless of RPM. Also the stator is just a output source.. same AC output freq regardless of RPM ..just a voltage rise/fall. Also the CDMs are a path to complete circuit stator as stator has output and return vs ADI which is output only.

On the DVA working on a 6 rather than a 4, the pulses are closer together on a 6 by 33% meaning that it would be 33% easier for the DVA to measure the 6 than the 4. On peak voltage whatever it is, regardless of number of cylinders the DVA will charge up to it and hold till you disconnect the leads or turn the engine off. The only difference with number of cylinders being measured is how long it takes to stabilize at the peak voltage reading on the meter as a function of engine rpms.

On the '88 115 Direct Injection, I had one, bought new, marketed in 1989 on a 1989 Ranger pad hull. That sucker would get on the pad and run at 6k rpm, Merc 19P Laser 3 blade SS, kissing 50...maybe would have touched it if in the dead of winter (brrrrrrr), about 10% prop slip, and just sing to me. Loved that engine and boat more than any I ever owned and that's quite a few over the years. I ran the 19 vs higher pitch because I used to water ski behind it also.
I don't believe Mercury made a direct injected motor in 1988.

Direct charge or direct injection.-----There is a difference I would say !!

My mistake; Brain Pfart....since a lot of today's engines are "fuel injected" and my diesel tractors are "direct injected" meaning the injector squirts into a cupped piston top rather than in a side cavity the ignites and that ignition migrates to the main cylinder....term for that is "swirl chamber or indirect injection".

As Racer 1 pointed out, it was Direct "Charged", Mercury's answer to OMC's Loopers till they had time to come up with their own design and OMC's patent had time to expire.....my opinion. The process still had the crown on the piston like "Cross Flow" engines but had a hole in the side of the piston allowing for a different fuel routing. The result worked. That was one of the most efficient engines I ever ran....course comparing Merc to OMC (I was a Merc convert) cross flows, those big cubes did the work but were thirsty.

Well we're on different sheets of music. Will yield to the power.

The term -----" direct charged " ----was coined by Mercury to give the sales people an answer in the showroom.----When a potential buyer asked about loop charging on the Mercury outboards they could baffle the buyer with ours are " direct charged " , and just as good or better than loop charged.-----Loop charging was used by OMC ( Johnson and Evinrude ) on their Lawnboy power mowers in the 1950's

Ok I have a small developmen,I did the resistance test according to the correct manual on stator and trigger and all were in range. I now have spark on the number 3 cylinder only. Also the alarm to my oil pump has started going off, there seems to be a short right where it comes into the cowling
