91 50hp OMC has a rattle just above the cavitaion plate any ideas on what it is..

Well what is in the lower end of the motor and above the cavitation plate that will clank around

Shift linkage, drive shaft bearing, water pump impeller disintigrating, loose water pump assembly, and a bunch of parts inside the lower unit that are transmitting noise up the drive shaft so it only "sounds" like that's where the noise is coming from.
