I'm trying to help a friend out. He just bought a 91 VIP with the 4.3 OMC setup. It runs great, has plenty of power, runs in normal operating temperature and everything.
But when you put it in reverse, it starts sputtering/stumbling and eventually dies if you dont take it out after a few seconds. Im ordering a manual for it today, the boat is here at work with me since i told him i would try to help him out. any help is appreciated. Thanks!

does it sound like the cable is bad, or just out of adjustment?

IM thiking it is a bad cable. Adjusting it just covers the problem usually. But follow the manual for the adjustment when you get the new cable.
