i just repowered with a '92 loop charge 140 evinrude. it was factory rebuilt and looks very good inside. i have taken it out twice. the first time it ran flawlessly for about 40 miles

but today i went out and it started right up and ran great for about 20 minutes of idle and no wake driving and about 10 minutes of high speed cruising then it just abruptly died and would not restart even if i pumped the bulb and worked the throttle and choke. i checked the spark with a timing light and there was no flash at this time.

after about 20-30 minutes of it sitting it restarted and ran for another 10 minutes before shutting off again and it wouldnt restart for another 20-30 minutes.

the motor is pumping water and the heads are hot but not scalding. it seems that once it gets hot something ignition related stops firing.

it doesn't seem to be fuel related but the tach sometimes works properly and sometimes it jumps around for what thats worth. any ideas?

Sometimes powerpacks fail when hot only. Test by running on a hose and heating powerpack with a hair drier to speed up the process.
