92 4.3lx Mercruiser starter

I am replacing my starter on my 4.3lx Mercruiser engine and the solenoid on the starter doesn't have two little posts like my old one did, does that matters? I was just going to put them purple and yellow wires on the same little post on the new starter.
I have attached a photo of both starter solenoids old and new.
Everything else in the new starter looks the same.

Yes it matters. Your old starter was designed for use with an electric fuel pump. The new one does not have this feature.

Thanks for the information before I installed it and found out the hard way. I will return this one and order a new one.

You can run the fuel pump lead from the slave ...

I switched the solenoid and ended up putting the starter in. It's working great, now to figure out why it's so hard to start for the first time.

I have had this Bayliner Maxum for a couple years now and it's always had a problem when starting it cold but I could always get it going after a lot of cranking and throttle pumps. This year I haven't been able to get it going.
It will want to start after a lot of cranking but it doesn't stay running. I bypassed the oil pressure sensor and my fuel pump is definitely running and I can smell gas. At this point I'm leaning towards my accelerator pump.

My guess, carb needs a rebuild. Smelling gas because the float is sticking and its flooding

Merc used 2 different 4bbl carbs on those engine, a Rochester Quadrajet, and a Weber 9600 series. If you have the Weber (and you need to know which carb in order to get a rebuild kit), then it's likely you have the Weber dribbles. And it doesn't matter how many times you rebuild it, it's going to be a problem starting it in the mornings. Plenty of posts about it... Just search up 'Weber'.

I ended up going through all of my connections cleaning everything up, I also found what carburetor I have and I went through the manual so I could clean it out as much as possible. After that I was able to start it up this time I didn't give it any throttle before starting only once it started to start up. Now I have let it cool down twice and it starts no problem.
I will wait until tomorrow to see if it still had issues starting up when its cold. I really would not have made it to this point without this website and all of the information.
