Engine starts fine but will not turn off when the key is turned to the off position. Key switch is incorporated into a binnicle-mount control.

Seems to me this happend with another Johnson I had years ago, but I cannot remember the cause.

Hoping someone has some suggestions...

BTW, this is a great forum with loads of great info. I'm happy I found it!!

Could be a bad key switch, a bad wire, or a bad pin connector in the wiring harness. The kill circuit is the black wire with yellow stripe.

Welcome to iboats lxolib!

Will the engine shut off if the emergency shut of key is pulled? If it will, the problem lies likely in the key switch.

If the emergency switch will not shut the engine down as well as the key switch, check the grounds inside the control box if you are using one with the key switch mounted in it. The black wire with yellow stripe is the kill wire from the power pack.
