Hey Guys looking for some help. I just got my late grandfathers 1992 14' aluminum with a 20 HP Johnson on the back. When I took it out for a run the cooling system H2O is dripping out the "pee hole" and spitting out the exhaust. Is this normal? I've been told that Johnson's cooling water comes out the exhaust as well as the **** hole but no one can tell me at what amount. Any help where I can get started at fixing the problem, if there is one, would be great. Thanks.

Check to make sure there isn't something blocking the telltale(pee hole) hose. You can disconnect the hose and blow air through it to see if it's blocked. My father-in-laws motor had dirt dauber's pack mud in his. Normally the telltale has a steady stream of water not, a drip. Also, to check it at home on the hose buy some flushing cups or fill a metal trash can with water and run the motor in the can. Be sure and fill the can up with water above the water intakes.

Take the cowling off and look for any water leaks. If the telltale hose has come off or has a cut in it that may also be causing just a drip.

Is the engine getting overheating? When was the last time the impeller was changed? It's time to go buy the shop manual for the motor. I prefer the OMC manual to the Seloc manual for my motor.

Water spitting out the exhuast ports is normal.

Re: 92 Johnson Cooling Problem

I have an 85 hp johnson,73 2 cycle. Spitting out the exhaust is normal. Should come out pee hole.

Just make sure your hot horn or whatever device, sensor your boat has is working to ensure If the cooling system is not working it will go off.

While the motor is running with muffs on or while in the water you should be able to hold your finger on engine blcok for about 30 sec.,if it cooling properly.

You may also look into to ensure the thermostat is working properly. I have to check on this.

Thnks. I don't think the impeler has been changed. It seems to be a good motor so I'm going to changed the impeler and check on the tell tale hose. Thanks for the advice on the manual type.

Thanks again.
