Hooty is correct. It will keep the starter motor from turning the engine over, but not keep it from starting once the motor is turning over. In other words, it has nothing to do with spark to the plugs or any other ignition problem. Why it did not start is another question. Could be coincidence or not. Maybe with all the problems you were having at the time, the motor got flooded and after it sat for awhile, it fired up. Once again, replace the cable and see what happens. Let us know after you get the cable on.
