93' 115 johnson black stuff leaking from exhaust?

Is it normal after running your engine to have black oily like substance come out of the propeller? I dont believe it is lower unit oil. I checked it and it is a different color. also it is not much about a dollar size on the floor.

It is probably 2 cycle oil that is coming out of the exhaust.<br /><br />My 1989 90 does the same thing.

Is that good or bad? It is thick oil.

Nothing to worry about. It's quite normal for a 2 cycle outboard to have unburned fuel/oil drip from the through-hub exhaust. Mine does the same thing as well.

It was about a dollar size of fluid. how much does yours leak?

mine's leaked like that too, especially since I'm running Seafoam in the tank right now. it's just carbon and unburnt oil don't sweat it

Dave, make sure the engine temp is running at specs and the plugs are good. Cold running engines will agrivate the dripping as will bad plugs. Normally nothing to worry about. But could be an indicator of hidden problem. Nothing like a little PM.

That's what Seafoam does!<br /><br />I know the feeling, was shocked to see a hemorrhage of goo surface behind me while trolling with new-to-me-but-old Volvo I/O. Had forgotton that I had added Seafoam after last time out. <br /><br />I never believed in engine tonic but it saved a Dodge truck I bought at auction -- pinged like a telephone until after a 1/2 tank of Premium with a can of Seafoam -- then it ran perfect on regular!<br /><br />Since then I use it in everything, especially two cycle engines because they "carbon-up" even worse than I/Os and V8s. Also treats gas for winter, cleans varnish out of carbs.<br /><br />No, I'm not on the payroll!
