it sounds like you broke something in side when the drive is in gear with the motor off the prop should not spin freely<br /><br />drain the gear lube and see what falls out<br /><br />tommays

out of the water and in gear it should make noises in one direction and not turn in the other.unless u turn motor over too.but dont do that.

Thank you both for your responses. The prop does turn in one direction, but not the other. I am going to have to wait till tomorrow or Tuesday to drain the fluid. I guess all I can do is look for water and metal in the lube. Anything else to look for?

Drained the fluid and it looks normal (not milky and no metal from what I could tell). Could I have a u-joint problem?

Wondering if this could be a simple solution:<br /><br />My prop was pretty dang loose...I tightend it down to spec torque. Could this be the source of the vibration I was feeling on low throttle/takoff? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

a loose prob could. But i personally havnt had a loose prop but id think if it was it would vibrate.

I'm not sure What you have going on........<br />In forward, the Prop is driven Onto the propshaft....<br />The propshaft nut, is Actually Only Working(or doing Anything) in Reverse......<br />I really Doubt it's a propshaft Nut torque Problem........

put the boat on the muffs and start it out of the water.of course with gear fluid refilled.Listen to see if you can hear any strange noises.<br />things to chk.<br />u-joints(raise or lower drive and turn side to side while running) make sure the muffs stay in place .<br />This should be done in neutral.<br /><br />chk the prop hub to see if it spun.<br /><br />Chk the coupler to the back of the engine,when your problem occurred,did you smell any burning ruber?<br /><br />if nothing seems strabge I'd pull the drive to inspect gimble bearing and u-joints.<br />Rich

Thank you guys very much for the responses. I tightened up the prop, took it out on the lake this weekend and no sign of the problem from what I could tell. If it was a problem with the gimble or the u-joints, would it make noise/vibrate all the time, or could it be intermitent?
