Hello All,
I have a 93 17SCX Astro that has a problem that I am trying to fix! This is a great, fast, and Beautiful boat but Astro messed up on the bilge pump....
The switch was put on the fuel cell platform instead of on the lowest part of the hull. In my case that meant that tank platform was wet before the pump went on. I neglected to pull the plug to drain it since all looked dry! The right (oops, I ment starboard !) aerator died and I pulled the tank and found the shelf below to be crumbling! The fiber glass coating on the transom and keel stringers "looks" OK but I need to find out if the wood is bad inside. Is it OK to drill a small in each area to see if the drill shavings look rotten? This boat runs 65 mph so I don't to take chances ! Thanks in advance and I am amazed at the mass of knowledge on this site!!!!!

Fixing the '93 astro 17SCX

Fixing the '93 astro 17SCX

OK After taking some samples it looks like only the panel below the transom where the Bilge plug and livewell intakes are is water logged.(see pics) I plan to cut this out and replace it. My question is .....after the new sealed piece is in place, what order do I put on the Mat, Roving, and cloth? Also what do I do to close the section where I cut a 2" hole (see Pic) in the stringer. I would like to make the hollow stringer stronger. Would filling both round stringers with SeaCast be a good idea?
