93 Evinrude 48 SPL Tilt/Trim not working issue...

I recently obtained a boat and the tilt and trim worked when I picked it up 4 hours away but when I got home the trim would whine as if it was working but it will not move.

I removed the top screw and put some transmission fluid in the reservoir, with the motor raised. Once I screwed back in the plug the motor would not at all go up but would slowly go down. If I hold my hand under the prop I can pick up the motor as i raise the trim but it will not raise on its own. Can someone please help me?

I would greatly appreciate it.

Tilt motor all the way up and lock it there, open , fill, close. Unlock, lower motor all the way down. Now back up, lock, fill, close, lower. Repeat, repeat, repeat..

I appreciate the response, I will give that a try as well. No one told me to drop it all the way down. I know I will have to raise it back up by hand. Is there a way to tell if the pump is just weak and unable to lift the motor?

Well T'daddy that worked and I appreciate the help very much...it still seems to be a little sluggish going up but the reservoir is full.

I ran it tonight with the muffs on and the bell came on after running about 10 minutes. So I am going to fill up a garbage can with water in the morning and hope that the water pump is working, is that hard to change out? I hope it doesnt come to that but I am ready for this thing to be done. It has been about 18 months since it had ran before today.

You're playing with fire. Burning up an engine over a $25.00 impeller and an hours work is a travesty.

What do you suggest I do? I am new to boat repairs. I figured if I placed the motor in the garbage can and ran in I would be able to tell if the water pump was functioning. Wouldnt this be the same as having it in the water?
