93 evinrude 60hp overheat alarm. do i have to reset alarm?

helping a friend, his alarm went solid and loud, internet said overheat alarm so he put in a new t-stat and water pump all works great, still alarms so he called me. i looked at it for a moment pumps great and flows great and cool heads have no hot spots checked with laser Temp gun, s and alarm goes off when i unplug temp sender. i assume sender is bad or do i need to do anything to reset alarm?

Sounds like sender is bad. Engine off, unplug tan sender wire, then use a continuity meter to measure the tan wire to ground.
(Clip one lead to ground, clip the other lead to tan wire from sender). If you show continuity, the sender is bad.
