A friend recently bought 93 16' Maxum with a Force 55 hp. neither of us know much about this make but we know that it has had problems in the past. The igniter box has been replaced once already which has made us both doubt the long term reliability of the motor.(the motor has very low hours) Any info on this make would be appreciated. Thanks

I have an 88 Force 125HP and it runs perfect, couldnt run any better right now. I have had it for 4 yrs now and never had an ounce of problems, other than having to do the normal maintenance. Only problem I ever had was the Tilt and Trim unit, but other than that it runs like new. Pushes my 20 FT bayliner 40mph now, so I'm happy.

Bryan

Any other opinions? Buddy needs to know if the low RPM bogging/low power problem is worth fixing.

Ted,

It doesn't sound like you are every going to be happy with this engine. Maybe you should consider purchasing something else.

Re: 93 Force 55hp- Piece of crap?

I just wanted to say thanks for all the great responses and any further ones would be appreciated. The big problem I have with this motor is that there is a serious miss for about 30 seconds and then it goes right up to top end without any further problems. From a get go, it takes approx 30-40 seconds to hit top end, sputters and misses like an ignition problem but the power pack is brand new. Any sugestions would be welcomed. By the way, this site kicks butt. Keep up the great work!
Captain G :D

My FORCE 90 runs like a top. I hope it stays that way. Maintain the engine properly and it runs fine. 36 mph on my 90 MAXUM. I hope it works out for you.

Hi Ted: Any chance you are getting a little water around one of the spark plug caps? Or a small cut in one of the plug wire's insulation. Sounds like when it warms the area up the miss goes away. Larry

Re: 93 Force 55hp- Piece of crap?

Hi Charger, the problem occurs every time I go to accelerate from low to mid range. The engine starts and idles without fail but when I hit the 3/4 throttle and up, it hesitates for approx 30 seconds and then kicks in like someone has thrown a switch. This will happen whether the engine is cold or hot. When it finally clears out, it's great and won't hesitate until I slow down and then try to accelerate again. Does anyone know a tried and true mixture setting for these motors?
Thanks again, Captain G

Re: 93 Force 55hp- Piece of crap?

The problem appears to happen as the carbs transition from low speed jet to hi-speed jet. In the past when I was in karting, this was usually a sign.. A: the float was set too low, or B: in the case of pumper carbs the pulse fuel pump had a slight leak. There is a slight chance the timing components have some play and you are experiencing inconsistant ignition at specific RPM. After hearing this occures each time you throttle up, I don't think you have a water-in-fuel problem. Have a great 4TH. Larry
