Hi,

I bought what seems to be a well maintained boat w/ 93' Johnson 90 hp. I would like to know if there may be "a recommended" maximum rpm for an engine of this age?

I have run at 4,000 rpm for 15-20 minute periods but at this time I am not comfortable running any faster since I would hope she lasts a while longer. Any advice?

Thanks.

Ric

Actually, 4000 is loafing for that engine. 5000 -5500 at wide open throttle is the ideal (manufacturers) operating range. With a normal load, WOT throttle should place the rpm in that range. I have a 95 Evinrude that sees long runs at WOT and has not skipped a beat since new. Keep it tuned, use fresh gas, and she'll be fine.
