You took the back cover off and it wasn't right there?

Re: 93 King Cobra no fill plug??

Just pulled the cover and i see it i believe.Just lower right of the impeller housing?
It needs a new impeller but can't find one local...I see they changed them for the 93 model..At least the kit and wear plate is a different part number...
Not sure if the impeller itself is different.I can turn the wear plate over and make a gasket for it if the impeller is the same...
All my parts books show up to 1992 on that impeller..

Yes. Been awhile since I did a Cobra. Isn't that where they always are?

NO....that was not it Bruce! WTH?

Also the wear plate can't be reversed because the bottom bolt is off center..

Take a picture and post it. Maybe someone will see it and show you where it is. It has to be there.

Re: 93 King Cobra no fill plug??

Looks like they changed a bunch between 92 and 93..
The only impeller kit i can find is 140 bucks...
It says there was a parts change for 93 and the 92 or older impeller kit is a different size..
I can make a gasket for the wear plate if the rubber gasket for the housing works from the regular Cobra and if the impeller is the same..
This quick job is turning into a headache..:(
Still have to do an oil change and tune up on it..

Will post a pic in a bit...going to Napa..;)

No center fill plug i was told by a Tech at the local marina...

The impeller kits is only available online for over 110 bucks...

I have spent an hour looking over this drive and can't find the third plug so i guess the marina is correct..?

The guy wanted the job finished by tomorrow evening but now will be waiting on parts..The impeller was dry rotted and about to fly apart...
It would have never made it through the season..

Believe it or not, I have the JV drive manual (PN 508289) sitting right here in front of me.
You do SLOWLY fill from the bottom, until the oil reaches the first mark on the dipstick with it just sitting on the threads (not screwed into the top cap).

I will try to see if I can scan it and post the info here.

Here are the scans. Not real clear, but I think you can catch the drift of it.

NOTE: for anyone reading this, it's for the KING COBRA, the one with the cone clutch, before the Volvo/OMC joint venture. It has nothing to do with the Cobra with the center drain plug, or the OMC/Volvo SX drive.

Re: 93 King Cobra no fill plug??

THANK YOU DON!!!

I knew i wasn't going crazy.....:p

It must have been low.Only about 2 quarts came out and was black as tar..
I was thinking it held 96 ounces...i was close.Trying to remember from my old OMC manual..
103 ounces...great tip...:D

The guy wants this boat finished tomorrow.....he paid for next day air on the impeller.

I know one thing...those OMC 351 motors are a huge pain to change spark plugs on..I have 3 different sockets, swivels and a T handle and still had a fit with them..
That was after 45 minutes of taking seats apart to just see the motor..

This will get banned if any of the mod's are bible thumpers or religous folk....

OMC is really an acronym for Oh My Christ..... Because that's what you say after some procedure or build design is about the dumbest thing ever, or you can't get parts, or the 10 yearl old neglected thing just won't come apart or do anything.

So True Jason,

I am lucky this boat looks brand new...not a spec of dirt or rust on the motor and the bilge is super clean.
Just a PIA to work on with all the seats and panels covering the motor.
I almost removed the manifolds just to change the plugs...

My jaw dropped at the price of the impeller kit..Retails for 146...
When the normal Cobra kit is 30 bucks..

Yep...OMC design...gotta love it!
