Hey all,

I purchased a 1993 Maxum 1800SR a year back with a cracked block. Ending up finding a donor motor replacement. Cracked block was a 92-93 Mercruiser 4.3 (S/N: 0D841216), replacing with another 4.3 but a little newer 93-95 (S/N: 0F438375).

When installing the newer motor, I noticed the Gear Oil Reservoir that I don't believe my previous motor had. I've ended up pulling the motor out again due to some bellow issues but would like to install the Gear Oil Reservoir line. Unless I'm blind, I don't think the boat currently has it. There does seem to be a line running on my Alpha 1 Gen 2 outdrive. I've read somewhere that this reservoir was an option on some older boats?

Here's a photo, can anyone point it out to me or where it should be? There seems to be a brass plug next to the water pick-up line that I'm thinking might be it?

BTW, I know one of the crush washers fell off, I'll make sure this gets reinstalled before putting the motor back in.

Looks like you can add it, the hex plug to the left of the water inlet hose

Any idea what the fitting inside should look like? I believe this is the fitting for the outside of the transom?

Looks like the through gimbal and the QD for the inside you also need the poppet valve for between the drive and bellhousing if

inside parts needed
https://www.marineengine.com/parts/.../oil-reservoir-components-square-oil-bottleit is not on your drive

Has outside parts needed on lower part of dwg

#4 is the valve on the drive needed.

You can add it if you want but I had a Gen one drive with out a lube reservoir system for many years no issue. If you keep it on a trailer or lift it is easy enough to check the lube periodically that I wouldn't bother adding the lube bottle

Thanks for the feedback! I'll probably take your advice and not bother adding it.
