I have a 93' 200HP Yamaha Precision Blend 2 stroke....

The other day I started it up and it started smoking really bad (I mean really bad).....I looked on the ground at the prop and noticed 2 stroke oil all over the ground.....

Took off the cowling and found that the small oil tank thats next to the flywheel was overflowing and dumping oil all over the powerhead.....

I believe its the float valve inside the tank thats not telling the oil pump when to stop but i'm not really sure........Any suggestions???? Thanks Warren

Forgot to add.....Kinda tight on $$$....Would like to know what these parts are going to cost me (oil tank float sender or control unit) before going to the local dealer and telling them I can't afford it......Thanks

Be sure the cap is on good. The most likely failure is the sensor unit for the engine mounted tank. You can test by connecting a test lamp in place of the pump in the large tank, removing the sensor unit from the tank and making the float move manually to see if it stops the pump. Also test the switch for manual pumping to be sure it isn't shorted.

Thanks for the reply Ray....

How do I test the switch for manual pumping???....Or are you talking about the float switch?

The float seems move fine.....Is the oil pump switch hooked up to the same wire that the alarm uses??....Because the alarm did go off and I had to re-fill the main tank manually with oil to shut it off.......

I had this same problem last fall drove me crazy! two things check to see if you have two little arrows one on the the sender one on the remote tank if so make sure they line up 2nd i had a dirty pin inside the wiring harness where it clips together on the main tank so it was not getting the signal to shut off this may not be your problem but does not hurt to check good luck
