bought a 94 evinrude 6.5, picked up a used tank and new universal fuel line. I can not get fuel into the line. seem to have air leaking out of the motor end when pumping and do not get fuel into the bulb. Am I doning something wrong, or just have the wrong parts??

The fuel line assembly is backwards. Point the arrow on the primer bulb toward the motor.

try putting the line, with no connector, directly into the tank , through the cap on the tank. i had a very similiar problem with a bit newer motor, getting air in the line. tank was only 2 years old, but the internal line in the tank rotted. and it was sucking air. motor ran like crap until i did the obove mentioned. worth a try!

good suggestions. I have the line in the correct way, arrow to the motor. When I squeeze the ball, I have air pushing out at the fitting at the motor. Tank is not new so the cracked line in the tank is a possiblility. How tight should the conectors be to the tank and motor. All other motors I have had were 50s motors...

I would like to see the model number on that outboard. I may be old and forgetful, but I don't remember ever seeing anything about a 6.5, Evinrude or Johnson.

could just be what someone put on it?? It has been painted over, the entire outside. Cover and motor.
fitting seems to be loose where they connect, think the connectors or fittings are not correct??

try taking the connector of the line at the motor end. prime the bulb and see if it gives a good stream. if not, remove the connector, if it has one, at the tank, and put the open line directly into the fuel, and try squeezing the ball again....just to narrow down where it" might "be getting air on the suction side of things.

Will give these things a try tonight. will have to cut the fittings off and put back on with hose clamps but not a issue..
