update at bottom!

hey all, i FINALLY got this thing running well after a rebuild on the carbs and adjusting the throttle linkage.

so after that....i took the boat out to test it out.
it wont go past 10/20 mph. it has no power.

what are some things to look at that could cause this...?
i know the compression is good (120/118/118....when cold)

should i take the jet pump assembly apart to see if the impellor is worn out?

would the starter cause this issue? because i think the starter is going out. it slow cranks a lot. gets stuck. on when the motor is running, when i put it in gear etc....the starter gear spins and moves up and down.

any ideas? TIA

Does the engine rev up but just not move the boat or does it lug down?

If the engine won't rev up it most likely has you fooled about how well it runs with no load. Got a dead cylinder, stuck stator or failing throttle linkage..

If it revs up but won't move the boat look into your impeller.

The starter may have a problem, but it isn't causing your loss of power.

the engine revs up for sure. in neutral it revs all the way up.
even in gear it revs all the way up....just doesnt move the boat well.
it will go....just slips and moves about 15 mph at full throttle...

Re: '94 - 90 hp FORCE sportjet - no power

ok UPDATE.

i was outside checking out the jet pump area.
and i was laying there underneath the boat looking at the impellor/wear ring etc. all that looks good.

then i was looking at the intake grate and WTF! the rectangle metal piece that is supposed to be sealed to the hull is messed up. basically bent somehow.

so there is a good inch of space at the front between the seal and the hull!

i am no expert....but i have a feeling that has something to do with my issue...

edit - yea, from research on here.....seems i have a bent rideplate. previous owner must have ran it out of water or something. great.

any ideas on where to get a new rideplate from? or can i "fix" this one?
