Hi everyone. Trying to get my motor running, but no spark. Replaced the regulator last year, ran fine. It up and died on me last year while trolling at an idle. Checked kill switch on controller, seems good. Have manual, still no help. Seems that everything seems to have continuity with grounds. Stator wire maybe?
Thank you

Welcome to iboats. :)

My first guess would be bad low speed windings in your stator. They crap-out at a scandalous rate. Black stators have been replaced by red ones which seem to be holding-up much better.

It could also be a bad switchbox. They also crap-out too much, but not usually altoghether. You usually drop spark in a cylinder or two, but total failure happens too.

Many other things like the ignition switch, dead-man switch, wiring, etc. Probably not coils or triggers.

Are you testing with the wires detached? If they're still connected, everything will have continuity to ground and the readings won't help you. Stator windings in most stators shouldn't have continuity to ground, but some do. Dunno bout yours. Good service manuals will have procedures and specs.

Changing the voltage regulator only affects battery charging. The ignition system is separate although they do share some compnents. But they have separate circuits within.

Did some electrical testing according to the manual. Failed the switch box stop circuit test, stator output voltage test, stator resistance test, and primary ignition coil voltage test.(No voltage on any coil!) Passed the trigger resistance test. Book says if fails a switch box test but passes trigger test, replace switch box. What about the stator tests?

Big question, black stator or red stator? The stator acts similar to a car altenator buy powering the boat when the motor is running and charging the battery. Replace the switch box and go from there.

Re: "94 Force 120HP No Spark..... Help

Thanks for the input everyone. Turns out, according to a marine mechanic, my boat was the victim of a lightning strike. Stator (Black) is fried, along with the switch box and rectifier. Says he sees it happen quite frequently. Luckily, I think insurance is going to pick up the tab, although I'm sure I will end up paying for it. Thanks again for all the help, and I love reading the forums,
Ed
