i have a few questions, looking for some basic tips, things to look for...
as this is a new boat to me...

its a 94 sea rayder w/ force 90 hp 3 cylinder outboat.
when i got it, the engine would fire right up on first or second crank.
then after a few times of doing that. no more fire.
it cranks all day long, but wont fire.

i checked the spark plugs, they have spark. all 3.
i replaced those.

when i choke the motor....fuel leaks out of the carb bowls...i am thinking they need to be rebuilt....however would that effect it not firing?

i am charging the battery right now...as over cranking it killed the battery.

any other tips?

i just think it is weird how it would fire up, and then after a few cranks, it all of a sudden wont fire at all anymore.

It sound flooded and maybe the floats are stuck.

Make sure engine is "level" Pump the priming ball,

Check to make sure the saftey switch is on " run"

put in nutral only and pump it a couple of times,

push key in and crank.

OK lets get some facts straight here
1. pump the priming ball and see if it gets hard or does it continue to pump fuel into the carbs flooding them
2. Is the fuel leaking out of the bowl or is it flooding inside the carb and running out ?

It does sound like floats are stuck OR the carb breathers on the side of the carbs with tubes attached are clogged , If they clog , the bowl will pressurize and keep the float from closing the fuel flow. Simple test , Pull the lines off the sides of the carbs and take a very small drill bit , put it in the elbow fitting and twist BY HAND ! pull it out and see of you have stickey goo on the bit .. OR you can pull them off the air intake cover (leaving them hooked up at the carbs )and see if you can blow through them ( into the carbs) .

Start there and post up results !!

ALSO , VERY IMPORTANT !! do NOT run this boat out of the water without a flush kit hooked up or you could blow the ride plate off !!!

well the bottom of the 3 carbs...fuel shoots out of the side. the top two, fuel just leaks out of the top of the bowl. when i press the fuel pump it gets hard, but i can still pump it and fuel shoots out of the carb bowls.

Ok .. You have to stop the fuel leak first and foremost !
Did you try to check the carb breathers as I suggested ? It sounds like you have stuck floats and you need to find the cause . Call me tomorrow .

Re: '94 force 90 hp wont fire

ok, so i checked the compression....120, 118, 118
it has the red stator....and apparently the wires have been messed with by somebody because i cant find the rev limiter....

on the carb issue....here is an attachment of where the carb is leaking. i circled the little hole with red. the top two do NOT leak, the bottom carb leaks from that hole.

also, i attached a picture of the jumbled mess of wiring. can anybody tell me if they see a rev limiter and where it is in the picture....

ideas?

Re: '94 force 90 hp wont fire

i shot a tiny blast of carb cleaner back into that vent hole on the side of all 3 carbs. on the top two, nothing happened.
on the bottom carb....it shot back out of the tiny "plugs" on the opposite side.

anyways, after that i tried to start the motor and it fire right up. i took it to the boat ramp and let it run for a few minutes. ran ok....lots of smoke.
and fuel is basically pouring out of the vent hole of the bottom carb. i guess i will try and fix that bottom carb, or just see if i can find one from somebody on one of the sites. and hopefully it will run fine after that.
