94' Johnson 225 Steering Arm Screws

Hi there, I was just wondering if any of you guys can show me a picture of what the mid section looks like without the power head. My motor just broke the two top main screws that hold the upper mid section to the steering arm and I was wondering if anyone of you can give me some tips.
...Yeah, I know the usual -Take it to the dealer or to a certified mechanic and thats a good idea but it may cost me what the motor doesnt worth so I want to give it a shut.
I appreciate any help

Yeah, broke mine too. Time to take the powerhead off.
I have no picture, but go to shop.evinrude.com and look up your engine.
Under the "exhaust housing" section, you will see an exploded view.
Those bolts thread into the upper engine mount #38 .
I was able to remove my broken bolt ends by removing the upper engine mount and heating the metal around the broken bolts. Pair of vise grips later...out they came.
Be careful not to heat it up so much that the rubber melts.
That upper engine mount is over a hundred dollars. Also, get some S.S. bolts from the hardware store instead of buying them from OMC. Much cheaper.

...So, thats happens quite often on Jhonson outboards? I notice the motor moving weird at 20 miles ofshore and I came back in idle. I think that I was lucky to arrive to the marine in one piece.

Thank you for the tip, I saw he diagram from Johnson. I have disconnected the shift link, all cables, fuel and oil hoses etc. It looks as it is not a big deal to remove the power head, only the bolts from the bottom and it will be ready to go or there is any other thing else that I need to do before lifting the power head up?

Yes you are right, it is a pretty straightforward job.

The three large bolts on each side from the leg up into the powerhead are obvious.
There are others that are not so obvious. Two studs with nuts in front, one stud in back, two bolts on each back corner, three bolts (? from memory) along each side. All these are small diameter bolts. Maybe more that I cannot remember....
You will notice two "ears" on the back of the block at the junction of the block to exhaust adapter. Perfect for prying lightly with your choice of prying tool.
If it won't come off, check and double check for a bolt or two that you missed. If you crack/break your block....$$$$$.
You gotta get a powerhead to exhaust adapter gasket (333879, $12.60) to put it back together. Very lightly coat with gorilla snot when assembling.
(Gorilla snot is Permatex Aviation Formagasket in the plastic jar.)

I have already removed the power head and you are right, it is a straight forward thing to do, no a bachelor?s degree is required.
