Purchased boat used, ran great last year. Fired it this spring before putting in water then last weekend took to lake, got to ramp - cranked good, no spark. All other electrics good. Will try to isolate the kill wire to verify a short but worst case : Can a power pack go bad with no warning? One day she's good, next day nothing? Is this a common no spark problem for this motor ? Cranks great, 0 spark at the plugs using spark tester with plugs out. Thanks for any advice.

Disconnect the large RED connector at the engine and re-check for spark. If you now have spark, replace the ignition switch. If still no spark, the usual cause is a failed powerpack.

Thanks Joe, You verified my question regarding a bad power pack. One of the first things I did was pull the red plug apart and then spun her. Still no spark. Guess I'll shop for a new power pack. Any quick simple bench tests using a voltmeter before I plunk my bucks down for another one?

Johnny1,

I just replaced one on my Johnson 48 spl it was $109.00 exc. tax. I priced a different brand which was cheaper about $89.00 but the guy would have to order it, I would have to give him the money then go back to get, you get the picture. Plus I didn't mind the few extra $ for OEM.

I'm in New Orleans, LA. I'm not sure it the prices will be the same in Indiana.

Beck
