94 mariner outboard puts itself in gear upon startup

Fixed linkage issues and now when motor starts it tries to put itself into gear. Squeals pretty badly. Hopefully someone here has had this problem, any help would be appreciated

Gee, what motor and what kind of remote control? Is it a tiller model?

sounds like its out of adjustment
